East of Hout Bay, the road over Constantia Nek - the mountain pass to Constantia Valley - brings the traveller to the oldest wine region of South Africa, with a tradition of more than 300 years in wine production. The wineries are all within a 10 to 20 km reach of Hout Bay and can all be visited during a day trip, which also gives you enough time to participate in a wine tasting.
We recommend a visit to South Africas oldest winery, Groot Constantia. Take a tour through its museum and wine cellar, and also enjoy a wine tasting and lunch or tea time at the restaurant.
The winery Buitenverwachting offers visitors a tasty picnic lunch at a table or on a spot on the lawn.
